Grand Isle County is Vermont's second-least populous county, but what it lacks in population density it certainly makes up in beautiful scenery. Considered part of the Burlington metropolitan area, Grand Isle County is made up of several islands on Lake Champlain and is sometimes referred to as simply "the islands". Grand Isle County is comprised solely of the islands and is not connected by land to Vermont, New York, or Canada. Being surrounded by Lake Champlain offers residents spectacular views from pretty much anywhere in the County. To the east you can see the Green Mountains, to the southwest you will see the Adirondacks meeting the shoreline. You will find a variety of historic sites to explore while in Grand Isle County, as well as scenic attractions such as Grand Isle State Park.
Grand Isle County is located about 30 minutes from Burlington, 1.5 hours from Montreal, 4 hours from Boston. You can get to Grand Isle County using US Route 2 taking either the bridge from Rouses Point, New York or the causeway from Colchester, Vermont. There is also a bridge connecting Grand Isle County to Swanton, Vermont. You can also hop on the 24-hour service ferry that connects Plattsburgh to Grand Isle.
